Why do I need this information?

Under bankruptcy law, you are required to complete a credit counseling course before your bankruptcy may be filed.  

Once your bankruptcy is filed, you are then required to complete a second course in order to receive a discharge of all your debts.  .

Once you finish a course, you will receive a certificate of completion which you must provide to our office so we can  file the certificate with the Bankruptcy Court on your behalf.

Below is a list of credit counseling agencies that provide  pre and/or post filing courses.  Some agencies offer online courses only while others offer a telephonic option as well.  Please note that fees vary by agency. 

You are not required to use one of the agencies listed.  However, before you complete a credit counseling course with a different agency, it is important that you first check with our office to confirm the agency has been approved by the Bankruptcy Court.
